Emphasis will be placed on the development of good, sound baseball and softball skills without sacrificing the enjoyment and fun of playing the game.

The Baseball division(s) in which a child may play is determined by his/her age as defined by Cal Ripken League and Babe Ruth League rules. Those rules state that the League Age is determined by the child's age on April 30th of the baseball season. A child born on or after May 1 is one League year younger than a child born before May 1. However, players who were born in the Summer months may register as a SWING player so they can play with their grade-level peers.  Intra-league Softball divisions are determined by school year so players play with their grade-level peers and travel softball league divisions are determined by birth year.

The current WYBSL COVID-19 Response Plan can be found on the Documents Page Under Parents & Players:  (https://www.leagueathletics.com/Documents.asp?org=wybsl.com)

Northeast League U18 Summer Baseball 2020

This program be placing all registrants on "WAITLIST" until June 29th.    You will only be asked to pay if we move into Phase 3.

The Northeast League is a highly competitive program for Varsity and JV baseball players from Westford Academy (sophomores, juniors, and seniors). All players must have committed to trying out for the WA program this past spring. Freshmen may be eligible to play on this team, however, preference will be given to older players, as we are limited in roster size by the league.

The Northeast team will play a 10 to 12 game schedule during the month of July, with the top two teams meeting in a championship round. Towns in the league this season include: Lowell, Dracut, North Reading, Wilmington, Lynnfield, and possibly Tyngsboro and Billerica. All games will be held Monday-Thursday nights (no game Friday night or weekends, unless make-up dates are needed for rain outs), with home games on WA’s varsity field. All registrants will start on the waitlist in case play does not start July 1 as expected.

The fee is $175 and includes a hat and a maroon “Westford” jersey (new design for 2020).  Once the game schedule is confirmed, players will be moved off the waitlist and allowed to pay the fee.

9/10U Softball Summer 2020

The 10U Summer softball is a travel summer softball league which combines fun with competition.  It offers our Westford girls the opportunity to play against neighboring towns with similarly skilled teams. Teams play one or two games Monday through Thursday .  Occasional practices will also be held.   It’s a great chance for your daughter to keep playing softball and working on her skills during the summer without the commitment of weekend tournaments.

Due to Massachusetts COVID-19 reopening strategy, the earliest we may beginning practicing is June 8th and start playing games is July 6th.    In the event the reopening phases are pushed out, the season may be pushed out.  If this happens and the season is shortened, the cost of registration will be adjusted.

The WYBSL COVID-19 Response plan link is listed at the top of this page.

Players from surrounding towns (Groton, Littleton, etc): per our agreement with the Cortland League, players from Cortland League towns must return to play for their hometown in the Spring.  Players will be kept with their friends from their own town.

Softball Pitching Clinic July 5th

DUE TO STATE LIMITS ON GROUP SIZE, WE MUST CAP THE NUMBER OF PITCHERS WHO CAN ATTEND BASED ON THE NUMBER OF COACHES AVAILABLE EACH WEEK.  Pitchers must sign up here by 5:00pm Saturday July 4th to be able to attend.

WYBSL will be hosting Summer Pitching Clinics instructed by Jen Hoar, Juliana Arnolds, and Jr Pitching Coaches.   This is a free clinic open to any softball player that is interested in learning how to pitch or wants to work on the skills they already have.

This signup is for the Pitching Clinic on July 5th, will last one hour (4:00pm to 5:00pm), located on G7 at 15 River Road, Westford.

Every pitcher should bring their glove, their rip-it/face mask, lots of water, sunscreen, bug spray, and a good, positive learning attitude.  Pitchers should also bring a catcher, whether that be a parent or teammate.  Participants (pitchers and catchers) must now bring hand santizer and a face covering for their mouth and nose for use while interacting with the coach.

We will supply "softie" softballs.
